I found an Mao statue! So I actually will try the laserscan approach on this work instead of the modelling from photos. Although I did some laserscan tests myself a while ago (link) I decided to call for the pros! Mattia Mercante from Italy also uses David Laser Scanner and he offered to help me doing the scans. Check out his amazing achievements with this "low cost" laser scanner software ( the cheapest on the market) here
