Bert Simons portfolio | paper sculptures | Anatomy head (2005)
DSC00288
This is my papercraft anatomy head, an anatomical incorrect represantation of the human facial muscles. I have always been fascinated with anatomical drawings and models. Although I collect skulls of birds I don't have the balls to stuff an dead animal or even a human as Prof. von Hagen with his "korperwelten"does. So I started to make my own cabinet of anatomical models in paper. Also take a look at my homo vegetarius here

This is an computermodelled head I grabbed somewhere on the internet. It's normally used to render high definition images of computer people.
Actually the wire frame was to high definition for my purpose
So I started to simplize everything, redrawing everything in rougher planes.
from several photos I made a collage that covers all the head.
I did this with photoshop and had to 'invent' several muscles etc. to mak the transitions between the photos.
The completed collage
I projected the head from six side with the photos. I used a program called uvmap for this.
a page with some parts ready to print and glueall the parts printed out
The eyes still need a little more attention, the are just flat and glued inside.
